The grand chistera is the premier event in Basque pelota. Invented in 1857, it was initially short and relatively flat, then evolved into a longer and deeper version, reaching its final form in 1892. This sport, emblematic of the region, is divided into 22 specialities (bare hand, pala, paleta, xare, chistera, cesta punta, joko-garbi, etc.) and is played in three different types of court: the open fronton, the trinquet and the left-hand walls
Symbol
This room evokes the game played in more than 27 countries. The customised cement tiles, made by Atelier Volant for the villa, represent the fronton of this popular sport.
